PLANET's new 8-port Layer 3 switch is available now. The WGS3-404 provides 4-ports for 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit copper connections and 4-slots for optional Gigabit modules. The modules can be 1000Base-T Gigabit copper or 1000Base-SX fiber modules.
The wire-speed switch engine provides up to 19.2Gbps switching fabric for L2 and L3 IP routing and switching. Up to 256 IP subnets / L2 tagged VLAN's are also available to segment the IP or MAC-based networks. IEEE 802.1D Spanning Tree, bridging, port mirroring and port trunking are also supported for flexible LAN connections. IGMP snooping, filtering, and four priorities help to build a multimedia networks for applications such as video conferencing.
With its hardware-based IP routing capacity and true non-blocking design a Layer 3 forwarding rate of up to 11.9Mpps is achieved. RIP-1/2, OSPF unicast routing protocol and DVMRP multicast routing protocol are supported for integrating the switch into large campus networks.
Designed to offer guaranteed IP Layer 3 routing, the WGS3-404 empowers the performance of pure IP-based networks in a flexible and powerful way.

Use the WGS3-404 as a backbone switch by connecting it to PLANET's 24+2G WGS3-2620 layer 3 switches or other layer 2/3 switches at the workgroup level. With non-blocking L2 backplane, L3 wire-speed forwarding, building a high performance IP-based switched network is as easy as installing a Layer 2 switch. Up to 256 VLAN's supports network growth. Web, Telnet and console management plus RMON and port mirroring simplify management effort.
